De boerderij heeft een eigen natuurlijke bron en de yurts bevatten zonnepanelen als hun belangrijkste energiebron. Ideaal voor diegenen die werkelijk even aan alles willen ontsnappen en in verbinding met de natuur willen staan. De handgemaakte yurts bieden een intieme oase tussen de bomen. Hier kunt u heerlijk genieten van de rust in een luxe uitgevoerde yurt. Elke yurt is zo gepositioneerd in het Mediteraanse bos dat er genoeg privé ruimte is. De yurt heeft haar eigen buiten keuken, douche ruimte, houten vloeren en pergola’s met zitjes, zodat u heerlijk in de schaduw kunt zitten. De yurt heeft een diameter van 5 meter en is geschikt voor een koppel of een gezin van 4 personen. Elke yurt heeft een tweepersoonsbed en 2 losse bedden, ideaal dus voor een gezin met 2 kinderen. For those wishing to be well-versed within Spanish culture, the usual haunts, such as Madrid and Barcelona are perfect in that respect and represent the very best of Spain, with each city offering something a little different in order to enhance that diverse experience. However, some of the lesser known cities, particularly Malaga, are often overlooked.

Malaga is in the southern region of Andalusia and is the most prominent city on Spain’s Costa del Sol coastline. Its southern location usually means the sun shines brightly every day, attracting a fair amount of tourism and offers more than a beach lifestyle with its hiking trails, art museums and selection of bars and restaurants.

The Alcazaba is a beautiful Moorish castle, perched next to a large Roman Theatre, displaying the city’s ancient roots. The architecture of Malaga is magnificent and another famous monument is Malaga Cathedral, sat at the very heart of the city. With culture truly in the air, it’s a great time to go dancing and learn the renowned salsa, or even embrace the seafood culture including paella and sangria.

Popular cities nearby include Valencia, known for its bright culinary tradition and fabulous architecture, Granada and Alicante on the eastern coast.

Seven hectares of mixed woodland and irrigated orchards/ vegetable plots. The finca has its own plentiful water supply from its own spring (one of the most prolific in the area). There are productive areas of cork, olives and chestnuts as well as some fruit trees (including almonds, plums, oranges and a few avocados).

The finca is set in a secluded valley (close to the river Almachar) which is a haven for wildlife. There are salamanders living near the spring, a very rich birdlife (it is close to the main migration routes) and in spring, there are masses of wildflowers. It is a naturalist’s dream.

There are three buildings. The old house, approximately 5 x 10 meters, is stone built. It is habitable though in need of restoration. There is also a small wooden house with two bedrooms and a bathroom, and a brick built workshop (approx 6 x 6m). There is a solar electricity system.

The buildings have wood-burning stoves (the finca is self-sufficient in firewood). There is also abread oven.

The spring feeds an alberca/ plunge pool, perfect for endless summer afternoons ……

Barely into my teens, I remember my TV screen and those of my friends being flooded with images of emaciated children with shaven-heads tied to, and banging their heads against the bars of rusting cots. As Romania’s unwanted children stared out at the world through their pale, gaunt faces their huge eyes touched my heart.
From that point I knew I would go to Romania to work with the orphans. Somehow almost 25 years has passed but finally I have the opportunity to go. With my children being wisked off to Florida for two weeks with their Daddy I decided to take advantage of my brief freedom by booking my volunteering trip to Romania. Researching again the current situation in Romania I am disheartened to discover that, although there has been huge improvements made to the care of abandoned and orphaned children in Romania the situation remains concerning. Many children are raised in group homes which rely on the generosity of charity to provide money for clothes and toys and volunteers to stimulate the children and provide the care they need.
There are many older children living in medical institutions and group homes who are severely disabled due to the poor conditions they were exposed to in the old style orphanages. Many children who have left these group homes unprepared and unskilled live on the streets high on drugs begging and stealing for their next meal and fix.
I will be traveling to Romania in October 2012 to spend 2 weeks on an Inspire program supporting the work of the FutureSense Foundation overseas working with some of these children. Since qualifying as a social worker in 1988 I have experience of working with disabled children, children at risk of harm, looked after children and working with disadvantaged, drug and alcohol dependent families. I hope that my experiences will enable me to make a difference, however small, to the lives of some of these children.
